How Mise handles your data

This notice covers the Mise app for iPhone, iPad and Android, the website at withmise.app and shared recipe pages at share.withmise.app. We collect what Mise needs to work, we do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we are

Mise is made by OÜ Gears of Sumo, Kopli 81a, 11713 Tallinn, Estonia. We are responsible for your personal data as described here. Write to privacy@withmise.app with any question about it.

What we collect and why

Your account

When you first open Mise it makes an account for your device, so you can start without signing up. If you sign in, we keep your email address to send sign-in codes and to keep your recipes with you across devices. We also keep your app language and measurement preferences, and a record of your sessions (including the IP address and device type they came from) to keep you signed in and your account secure.

Your recipes

We store the recipes in your recipe box and what you add to them: links you import, photos you take or choose, your notes and edits, favourites, collections and cooking progress. When you import a recipe, the link or photos are sent to our AI providers to read the recipe (see below). When you chat about a recipe, the conversation is stored so you can continue it, and it is deleted when you delete the recipe or your account.

A recipe read from a link is kept in a shared cache so that anyone importing the same link gets it straight away. The cache holds the recipe from that page, not who imported it.

Collections and sharing

If you invite someone to a collection, the members see its recipes and each other's email addresses. If you share a recipe, anyone with the link can see it on share.withmise.app. The page shows the recipe and your note on it, not who you are.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we keep your device's push token to tell you when an import is ready or could not be finished.

The launch waitlist

If you join the waitlist on withmise.app, we keep your email address and when you joined, and use it only to tell you when Mise launches. You can ask us to remove it at any time.

Technical data

Our servers log requests to keep Mise running and secure and to find faults: the time, IP address, the app version and platform, and which account made the request. We also record how much AI processing each import and conversation uses, to keep costs under control. Logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted.

Website analytics

withmise.app uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It sets cookies and shares data about your visit, including your IP address, with Google. Shared recipe pages and the app do not use Google Analytics.

Why we are allowed to

• To provide Mise (your account, recipes, imports, sharing, notifications): because it is necessary for the service you asked for.
• To keep Mise secure and working (logs, usage records, abuse limits): our legitimate interest in running a reliable, affordable service.
• The waitlist and website analytics: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who processes your data for us

We use these providers, each under an agreement that limits them to processing your data on our behalf:

• Cloudflare: hosting, database, photo storage, sending email and server logs.
• OpenAI: reading recipes from links and photos, recipe conversations, edits and translations. OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models.
• Browser Use: reading recipe pages our first reader cannot, and finding a picture of the finished dish.
• Expo: delivering push notifications and app updates.
• Grafana Labs: storing server logs and monitoring, hosted in London.
• Google: website analytics, and the mailbox that receives email you send us.

Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where your data leaves the EU, it is protected by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or the EU's adequacy decision for the United Kingdom.

How long we keep it

Your account and recipes are kept until you delete them. Deleting your account in the app deletes your account, your recipes and the photos and conversations that belong to them, and ends the shares of recipes only you kept. Waitlist addresses are kept until we have sent the launch email, or until you ask us to remove yours. Logs are kept only as long as we need them to run and protect Mise.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time. Write to privacy@withmise.app and we will answer within a month.

If you think we have handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon, aki.ee) or the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Mise is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and its date. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email.
